What Exterior Painting Covers

Exterior Painting is a home improvement service that prepares and coats outside walls, siding, trim, doors, and related surfaces.

  • Exterior painting differs from interior painting because the coating system must suit outside exposure and the material beneath it.
  • The service scope includes surface checks, preparation, paint selection, application, and final detail work.

About

What exterior painting includes for your home

Exterior painting starts with the condition of the surface, not the color chart. We review siding, trim, doors, and other painted areas to see where cleaning, scraping, sanding, or repair may be needed. The work can include color planning, surface preparation, primer where appropriate, paint application, and detail work around edges and openings. We also consider how the new finish should meet existing materials, so the result looks planned rather than patched. This service fits homeowners who want to refresh worn surfaces, protect sound exterior materials, or coordinate painting with a wider remodel. It may not fit a surface that needs major replacement before paint, so we address that decision during the estimate.

Process

How we plan and complete exterior painting

1

Assess the painted surfaces

We review siding, trim, doors, and existing coatings for peeling, cracks, exposed material, and areas that need repair.

2

Mark the work that is in scope

We define the surfaces, preparation needs, color choices, finish details, and related work included in the estimate.

3

Prepare the exterior

We clean and prepare suitable surfaces, address needed repairs, and create a sound base for the new coating.

4

Apply the planned finish

We apply paint to the agreed surfaces and pay close attention to trim, edges, doors, and transitions between materials.

5

Review the completed work

We check the finished surfaces and walk through the project with you before closing out the exterior painting work.

What to prepare before exterior painting

A few decisions and access details help us define the work clearly before the estimate.

  • List the exterior surfaces you want painted, including siding, trim, doors, and outbuildings.
  • Note peeling paint, bare wood, cracked areas, or trim that feels soft.
  • Gather any preferred colors, finish ideas, or existing paint information.
  • Move outdoor items away from walls and keep access clear for surface preparation.
  • Tell us about related remodeling work that may affect the painting plan.

Best remodel experience we have ever had. The oversight, careful workmanship and ownership of the project was above expectations. Our design team was amazing. We also had the same person do all the work start to finish and was a total Pro. Could not recommend enough and will be doing any and all projects through them. This place is a gem.

Linda and her team did an excellent job! We would highly recommend them. We hired her for a kitchen remodel and asked for a very tight timeline. She delivered and we absolutely love the result. She was very commutative and available to us. Thank you Design and Build NW!

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Questions about painting your home's exterior

Who provides exterior painting in Bellevue?

HomeRemodelBellevue.info provides exterior painting in Bellevue and nearby Eastside communities. We paint planned exterior surfaces such as siding, trim, doors, and related details. Our licensed and insured construction professionals also coordinate painting with broader remodeling work when the projects connect. We start by reviewing the existing surfaces and defining the preparation, finish, and access needs.

What changes the cost of painting a house exterior?

Surface condition, painted area, preparation needs, access, trim detail, and finish choices change the cost of exterior painting. A home with peeling coating or damaged trim needs a different scope from a sound surface ready for paint. We review those details before preparing an estimate. Our estimates are free, and the estimate identifies the work included.

How should I prepare my home before the estimate?

Clear access, surface notes, color ideas, and photos help us assess an exterior painting job. Please identify siding, trim, doors, and areas with peeling or exposed material. Move outdoor items away from the walls when practical. We use the information to discuss the job scope, related repairs, and the finish you want.

Is exterior painting safer to plan with a remodeling contractor?

Exterior painting needs careful surface preparation, access planning, and coordination with related construction work. HomeRemodelBellevue.info reviews those parts together when painting forms part of a remodel. We also coordinate permitting, inspections, and required documentation for projects where they apply. The estimate should state which surfaces receive paint and which repairs or related work come first.

Can exterior painting include trim and doors?

Exterior painting can include trim, doors, siding, and other agreed painted surfaces. These areas need separate attention because edges, profiles, and material changes affect preparation and application. We list each included surface in the project scope. That makes it easier to compare the planned finish with the areas you want changed.

How do I choose paint colors for siding and trim?

Siding and trim colors should work together with the home's existing materials and design. We discuss the color plan as part of the exterior painting scope, including doors and visible transitions. A darker or lighter trim choice can change how edges and openings read. Bring your preferred colors, and we'll help connect them to the surfaces being painted.

What happens after I request a free estimate?

After you request a free estimate, we discuss the home's exterior, the surfaces you want changed, and any visible paint problems. We then define preparation, repairs, finish choices, and related remodeling needs. The next step is a clear project scope for review. Our Monday through Friday hours are 9 am–5 pm.

Scenarios

When Customers Call Us About Exterior Painting

1

Peeling Siding Before A Planned Refresh

Peeling siding needs a condition check before anyone plans a new color. Loose coating, exposed material, and surface damage can change the preparation work and the estimate. We assess the affected areas, separate repair needs from paintable surfaces, and explain the work needed for a sound finish. Share photos or request an estimate so the scope starts with the actual exterior condition.

2

Trim That No Longer Matches

Faded walls and worn trim can make a home look uneven, even when the siding remains sound. Color choice matters, but the trim condition and transitions matter too. We review the wall surfaces, doors, and trim together, then build a finish plan around your home's layout. Bring your color ideas and point out the areas that bother you most.

3

Painting During A Larger Remodel

Exterior painting often needs to fit beside additions, finish work, or other home updates. The key question is which surfaces require access first and which details must wait until related work is complete. We map the painting scope with the broader plan, then coordinate the sequence and final checks. Include every connected improvement when you request an estimate.
